Florence Vezina Parent, a longtime resident of Windsor, VT, died peacefully at home with her daughter and son at her bedside on 23 December 2020 at the age of 98.

Florence was born on October 22, 1922, in Berlin, NH.  The second of six children born to Henri and Yvonne (Parent) Vezina. She grew up in the historically French-Canadian community on Cates Hill in Berlin, and attended St. Regis School.

Florence worked a variety of odd jobs as a young woman, including staffing an inn at a popular White Mountain tourist site, helping neighbors with childcare, and doing housework. She was employed by the Brown  Company during World War II, one of the many women to fill the void left by young men at the front.

On 2 July 1955, Florence married her childhood friend Roland Parent. They initially settled in Berlin, NH where their two children were born.

In 1963 they moved to Windsor, VT.  Together Florence and Roland bought and restored a historical home on North Main Street where they raised their two children. Florence worked in the lunchroom at State Street School where she would quietly slip extra helpings of food to children in need and provided clothing to them as well. She made a point of instilling these values in her children. She was a parishioner of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic church and an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America serving as treasurer for many years.

Following the death of her husband in 1989, Florence divided her time between Windsor, VT and Berlin, NH where she cared for her mother and aunts in their declining years.

Florence was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother and spent countless hours reading to her grandchildren, teaching them to knit and sew, cooking treats for them, and playing card games.  She loved her extended family very much and always recognized birthdays and anniversaries with timely cards filled out in her perfect catholic-school penmanship. She was an accomplished seamstress and crocheter of afghans and made the best peanut butter fudge, Chex party mix and tourtiere.

Florence is survived by her children, Roger (Lori Parent) and Therese (Dan Etman), her brother Robert, her grandchildren Elissa (Steven Kellner), Kathleen, Andrew, and Maddi, one great-granddaughter, Camille, and by many beloved nieces and nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her husband (Roland), parents (Henri & Yvonne Vezina), three brothers (Norman, Roland, & Armand Vezina), and one sister (Rita Angers).

A viewing will be held Monday, December 28th from 3-5pm at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT. Due to concerns of COVID 19, the family will not be present at the viewing, they will be observing via live stream. A Private Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 30th at St Francis of Assisi Church.
