Windsor, VT- Evelyn Esther Williams, 98, died Sunday, January 15, 2023, at home with her family by her side.

Evelyn was born January 29, 1924, in Waterville, ME, a daughter of Clyde and Esther (Rowe) Ellis. She grew up in Waterville and attended a one room schoolhouse. The family later moved to Portland. Evelyn started to write to a young man in the Army during WWII, through this correspondence their love grew. She married Herbert Dean Williams on July 21, 1945, in Portland, ME. They made their home in Windsor and she worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber. The family moved to Ascutney and when the children were in school, Evelyn became the Ascutney School lunch cook, where she worked until her retirement in 1973. They moved to Florida in 1978, where they stayed until returning to Windsor in 2003, where she has lived since.

Evelyn was a member of the Ascutney Union Church. She was extremely active in the Connecticut River Grange in Ascutney, where she held many offices. She was a talented seamstress and a 4-H instructor, who taught sewing and knitting.

Evelyn is predeceased by her husband, Herbert Dean Williams, Sr.; a daughter, Jean Williams; and five siblings.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Coffran of Windsor; a son, Herbert D. Williams, Jr., ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a sister, Dorothy of Strickland, PA.
