South Royalton, VT- Evelyn M. Howland, 98, died unexpectedly, Saturday, July 31, 2021 at her daughters home in West Hartford, VT.

Evelyn was born April 27, 1923 in Newport, NH a daughter of Joseph and Mary (Murgatroy) Fountain. She graduated from Orford High School class of 1941 and was married to Bertie Curtis Howland December 7, 1942, in Lebanon, NH. While he was in the army they lived in Peak Isle, ME and Boston, MA. Upon his discharge from service they returned to the Upper Valley they would buy houses. They would fix them up and sell them. She became a very skilled carpenter. Evelyn worked for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction, VT as a dietary aide. Following her retirement she lived in West Burke and after Bertie's death in 2010 moved to her home in South Royalton where she enjoyed making the kitchen her own.

Evelyn is predeceased by a brother Walter Fountain and a grandson Joseph Howland and son-in-law Real Bergeron.

She is survived by a son Terry Howland and his wife Rachel of Waldon, VT; two daughters Sandra Bergeron of West Hartford and Donna Adams and her husband Alan of Hartford, VT; Five grandchildren, D. Scott Bergeron and his wife Sue of Hinesburg, VT, Jennifer Adams of Tampa Bay, FL, Angela Howland of Wheelock, VT, Susanne Libby and her husband, Jim of Lyndonville, VT and Christian Bergeron and his wife Ashley of Jericho, VT; six great-grandchildren and a Sister Grace Blackmore Youtt.
