IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn Pearl
Griggs
March 19, 1940 – January 21, 2025
Wilder, VT – Evelyn "Ev" Pearl Griggs, age 84, formerly of Los Alamos, NM, died at Valley Terrace in Wilder, VT on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Ev was born on March 19, 1940, in Detroit, MI and moved with her family to Las Vegas, NV, when she was seven. She graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with her bachelor's degree in journalism. She returned to Las Vegas to work at the National Laboratory where she met James Edwin Griggs on the employee bus to the test site. They were married on February 18, 1965, in Las Vegas and shortly after moved to Los Alamos, NM, where they both continued working for the National Laboratory. They were lifelong partners who loved to spend time outdoors year-round golfing, hiking, gardening, skiing, snowshoeing, and time on the patio with friends. Ev and Ed's love for travel took them and their daughter Tracey to many beautiful places, yet their favorite was Hawaii. They would golf, hike, and snorkel as a family for many years.
Ev was an active member of the community and made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed helping at the Senior Center working on the front desk and assisting with the "Meals on Wheels" Program. Ev was a kind and generous person who loved sharing her jokes, infectious laughter, and loving nature. Her greatest joy was volunteering at the Los Alamos Medical Center in the oncology department holding the patient's hands listening to their story, giving them a true gift of care. Golf was her passion, and she loved giving private lessons, coaching the girls' High School team and playing in several different women's golf leagues. Her perseverance in golf led to many tournament wins such as the City Invitational, Atomic Invitational and the New Mexico State Championship.
In June of 2023 she moved to Vermont to be close to her daughter, Tracey and son-in-law, Timothy, where she was able to enjoy some kayaking and hiking.
She is survived by her daughter Tracey Ciechanowicz and husband Timothy Ciechanowicz of Bethel, VT and was predeceased by her husband James Edwin Griggs and sister Bonnie Potter.
Ev will be missed deeply and forever cherished by all who knew her.
A celebration of life in Los Alamos will be announced by her daughter at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Ev would have appreciated donations to: Vermont Foodbank or the Los Alamos Senior Center.
