West Lebanon , NH - Ethel "Effie" Harriman, 86, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care at DHMC.

Effie was born March 7, 1932 in Hartford, VT a daughter of Fred and Fidelia (Murray) Luce. She started school in a one room school house in the Jericho District. From there moved to the Brockway District and attended another one room school house. Eventually the family moved to Quechee , VT where she graduated from the 8th grade. Effie went on to attend Hartford High School where she participated in many activities including the orchestra all four year, all state festivals, New England festivals and played violin. She then attended cosmetology school in Boston , MA in 1952 at Wilfred Academy . Upon graduation she worked for Esther Caswell at the Vanity Beauty shop and for Bev Ricker and Ruth Lyman at the Beauty Lounge. In 1968 She opened Effie's Beauty Salon where she worked until retiring in 1996 to help care for her mother-in-law at home.

Effie's most treasured times were spent with her family and all children including all of her grandkids. She looked forward to many trips with her husband to Maine and Pennsylvania Amish Country and loved all of her animals especially  "Ginger" who she leaves behind.

Survivor's include her husband of sixty two years, William B. Harriman, Jr.; children Sheila Mears and her husband Roger, Sharla Aher and her husband Gary and Thomas Harriman; grandchildren, Edward Goodspeed, William Goodspeed and his friend Deanna, Christopher Aher and his wife Megan, Zachary Aher , Heather Thuber and her husband Burton and Thomas Bowen; great-grandchildren, Evan, Cody, Deondra, Dakota, Keaton, Tristan, and Ethan. She is predeceased by her siblings, Ruth Audsley, Russell Luce, Albert Luce, Alice Koloski, Arlene Owsianik, Floyd Luce, Wallace Luce, Stella Brown, Fred Luce, Florence Packard and Mammie Luce; and way too many nieces and nephews to mention but she loved them all.

A memorial service will be held 10am, Monday, January 28 at the West Lebanon Congregational Church, UCC followed by burial in the West Lebanon Cemetery in West Lebanon , NH .
