White River Jct., VT – Esther Laura Rule, 91, died Friday March 8, 2019 at home with her family.

She was born February 23, 1928 in Colchester, VT a daughter of Clifford and Hattie (Miller) Coryea.  The family moved to Tupper Lake, NY where Esther grew up, graduated from high school and met John Rule. They were married September 1, 1947 at St. Alphonse Catholic Church in Tupper Lake where they made a home and began their family.  While Mr. Rule worked at the Sunmount Veterans Hospital in Tupper Lake, Esther remained home with their children and took in laundry and baby sat other children.  In 1965, when Sunmount closed, Mr. Rule was transferred to the VA Hospital in White River Jct. and the family has lived here since.  Mr. Rule died in 1990.

Esther loved crocheting; making many lovely items for her family and friends.  In later years she also enjoyed word search puzzles.

She leaves her son Wayne, J. Rule and wife Anne; daughter Clara R. Jarvis and husband Paul, all of White River Jct.; 5 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; brother Leroy Coryea of Missouri as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a brother Maurice Coryea and a twin sister, Eleanor who died at age 9.

Esther's family is forever grateful for the kind and compassionate care that her granddaughter, Tammie gave to their Mom, her Meme so that Esther could live out the rest of her life in her home where she wanted to be.

A visitation will be held Thursday evening, March 14, from 5-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning, March 15 at 11AM at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct. Interment will take place later in the spring in St. Alphonse Cemetery in Tupper Lake.
