White River Jct., VT – Ernest F Wilcox, 78, died November 20, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 14, 1939 in South Strafford, VT a son of Roy M. and Margaret A. (Porter) Wilcox. Ernest attended the White River School. He went to work for Dan Coutermarsh as a heavy equipment operator leaving for a short time to work in the same capacity for the Town of Hartford before returning. After Dan's death he started his own company where he worked until his retirement. He married Jean A. Dudley, February 28, 1959 in White River Jct., VT. They made their home in Hartford Village for a time before moving to Lower Hyde Park in the early 1970s where they have resided ever since.
Ernest enjoyed fishing and was always trying to find the best spots, hunting, doing clock repair, yard sales, gold panning with his brother, and helping others because it was the right thing to do. But his greatest pride was family, especially spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife Jean A. Wilcox; four brothers, Dick, Earl, Walter, and Dana; and a sister Lois.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lori J Couitt and her husband Clayton of West Hartford, VT, and Leslie J. Creamer and her husband William of Woodsville, NH; five grandchildren, Sarah Reynolds, Jennifer Barton, Katie Hanscom, Allison Cochran, and Lindsay Choiniere, fifteen great grandchildren; four sisters Myrtle Jenkins of MA, Hazel Griswold of Plainfield, NH, Winifred Barksdale of O'Fallon, IL, and Theresa Campbell of Lebanon, NH as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction Saturday November 25, 1-2:45 followed by a graveside service in the Christian Street Cemetery in Wilder, VT at 3pm.
