Wilder, VT - Ernest C. Gour, 61, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at his home in Wilder.
He was born June 21, 1956 in Lebanon, NH the son of Harold and Margaret "Jackie" (Scelza) Gour. Ernie grew up in White River Jct., where he worked at Twin State Fruit as a teenager. He graduated from Hartford High School class of 1974 and continued to work for Twin State Fruit Company for a year after graduating. He married Sandra Ricker July 5, 1975 in Hartford, VT and they made their home in Wilder where he has lived since. He worked for a time at the P&C Warehouse in Hartford then for many years at Smith Auto in Lebanon as the parts manager. After Smith Auto closed he started his career as the equipment manager at Dartmouth College where he has enjoyed working for the past 15 years.
Ernie was an umpire of both baseball and football games statewide as member of the Vermont Umpire Association for the past 30 years. He is a former member of the Hartford Elks Lodge BPOE #1541, the Hartford Rod & Gun Club, a Vermont State certified Hunter Safety instructor, and helped operate local fishing derbies for many area organizations.
Ernie was predeceased by his wife, Sandra in 2001; and a sister Toni Ann Gour in 2016.
He is survived by a son Ernest J. Gour of White River Junction; three grandchildren Andrew, Jacqueline, and Blaine; a great-granddaughter, Isabella; three sisters Karen Gour, Michelle Gour both of White River Junction, and Kathy George of Fairlee, VT; an Aunt Bernice Campbell of Newport, VT; many cousins, nieces nephews and two of his closest hunting friends, Bob Pregent and Ed Leavitt.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday, December 9 at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday December 11th at St. Anthony's Church in White River Junction at 11am.
