Erika N. Kautz

Hartland, VT – Erika N. Kautz, 93, died Saturday, January 15th at home in Hartland in the care of her family.

She was born November 25, 1917 in Ridgewood, Queens, NY a daughter of Hugo G. and Natalie (Nussbeutel) Kainik. She graduated from Ridgewood High School and later in life attended C.W. Post College on Long Island where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in English Literature. Mrs. Kautz stayed at home to raise her family when they were young and later worked as an editor at the Mill Neck Manor Lutheran School for the Deaf on Long Island for fourteen years.

She was married to William Charles Kautz July 8, 1945 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Brooklyn. They lived in Queens for a time and then in Huntington Station, NY until 1986 when they moved to Lancaster, PA. In 1997 she moved to Hartland to be nearer to her son and has made her home there since.

Mrs. Kautz enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, reading, attending Iliad Lectures, having lunch with friends and volunteering at a local library and food pantry.

She was predeceased by her husband, a grandchild Justin Kautz and a brother Herbert Kainik.

She leaves a daughter Marci Barbey of Hastings on Hudson, NY; two sons K. William Kautz of Hartland, VT and Randall William Kautz of Grand Junction, CO; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

Committal services will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.
