Emma I. Robinson, 98 a former longtime resident of Reading, passed away Wednesday morning, July 13 at Valley Terrace Assisted Living in White River Jct.
She was born May 23, 1918 in Providence, RI the daughter of Phillip and Jennie (Folco) Guica. She was raised and received her education in Cavendish, VT. She left home at the age of nineteen to live in New York City where she worked in a factory as a seamstress; it was the beginning of a lifetime love of sewing. She married George M. Robinson in Windsor on January 28, 1955. She was a loving wife and mother and took great pride in raising her family. Emma was employed as a cook at the former Leland's Restaurant in Brownsville for several years and later at the Reading General Store. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and loved to cook. She had prepared meals for the Reading seniors for many years. She also taught 4-H and sewing. She was fond of gardening and loved to travel, the highlight being her trip to Italy. She received great pleasure in spending time with and entertaining her family and many friends at her home in Reading. Mr. Robinson passed away in 1984.
She was also predeceased by her parents, one son, David "Joe" Sclafani, one granddaughter, Angela Sampson, one brother, Frank Guica, two sisters, Ora Spaulding and Julia Guica and one stepson, Leslie Robinson.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Schamback and her husband, Douglas of Vero Beach, FL and Rita Boynton and her husband, David of Hartland, VT, one daughter in law, Patricia Sclafani of Claremont, NH, two stepdaughters, Jean Robinson of Essex, VT and Elizabeth Marshall and her husband, John of Avon Park, FL, two brothers, Carmine Guica of Cavendish, VT and Vincent Guica of Winooski, VT, eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening, July 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 17 at 2:00 PM at the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor. The Rev. Connie Moser, of Bayada Hospice will officiate. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Brownsville Grange Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
