Elton, J. Davis, 85, a longtime resident of Windsor passed away Friday morning, January 8 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
He was born November 14, 1924 in Candia, New Hampshire the son of Walter and Mary (Tomasi) Davis. He received his schooling in Manchester, NH where he graduated from Central High School in 1942. He attended St. Anslem's College in Manchester and Dental Technician School in Boston. He married Joan Dube in Manchester on June 28, 1947. They moved to Windsor in 1948. Elton worked at Dr. Lawrence Tomasi's Dental Office in Windsor for a brief time. He was later employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Windsor for many years until his retirement in 1982. He also owned and operated Dave's Trucking in Windsor from 1964 until 2002.
He was a longtime and active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor, and was a volunteer member of the Windsor Fire Department. He currently served as Auditor for the Town of Windsor, was a former member of the Paradise Park Commission in Windsor, and a member of the Goodyear Retirees.
Elton was a farmer at heart and continued to farm and garden, giving most of his produce away to family, friends and neighbors. He was known to be very generous to all that knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty two years, Joan L. Davis of Windsor, one son, Lt.Col. Michael W. Davis and his wife, Eileen of Nashua, NH, four daughters, Suzanne McWhinney and her husband John of Danvers, MA, Linda Curtis and her husband Alton Jr. of Windsor, Debra Knapp and her husband Fred of Windsor and Crikett French and her husband Jeff of Windsor, one brother Raymond R. Davis and his wife Ruth of Claremont, NH, one sister-in-law, Nancy P. Davis of Windsor, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Sunday evening, January 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Monday, January 11 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Rene Butler M.S., Pastor, will be the celebrant. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Committal services will be held in the spring in the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Windsor.
