White River Jct., VT – Elmer R. Champney Sr. 85, died Sunday July 25th at Genesis Eldercare in Lebanon, NH.
He was born February 12, 1925 in Marlow, NH a son of Perley and Edith (Castor) Champney. He moved to White River Jct. at an early age where he began working on the Perkin's farm. He was married to Joan Gray August 26, 1949 in Marlow, NH and they lived in White River Jct. all of their married lives. Mr. Champney worked as a night watchman at Rockdale's in Lebanon and the Heel Factory in Wilder before beginning work as a grounds keeper with the Hartford School District where he worked many years until retiring. After retiring, while living at Merrimack Manor he worked managing the park.
Elmer was past Scout Master for BSA Troop 222 in White River Jct. He enjoyed fishing with his wife and grandchildren as well as hunting, especially coon hunting with his dogs. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed donating furniture he made to St. Anthony's Christmas Bazaar. He also loved bingo.
He was predeceased by his wife in 1999 as well as several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by three sons Perley Champney III of Chelsea, VT, Elmer Champney Jr. of Newbury, NH and Dennis Champney of Lebanon, NH; two daughters Susan Smith of Zephyrhills, FL and Maryanne Williams of Hartland, VT and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Hilltop Cemetery in Quechee, VT Friday July 30th at 10AM.
