ELLIOT B. "SKIP" MATTESON, JR.
BROWNSVILLE, VT
Elliot D. "Skip" Matteson, Jr. 59, a longtime resident of Brownsville passed away Sunday morning, July 4 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
He was born November 5, 1950 in Providence, RI the son of Elliot B. and Barbara (Waite) Matteson. He moved with his family to Reading, VT as a young boy. He received his schooling in Windsor where he graduated from Windsor High Scholl in 1968. He attended the University of Vermont and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. He married Susan Wadleigh on August 26, 1972 in Claremont, NH. He worked as a land surveyor for Tom Dombroski in Claremont, NH for ten years until joining his family business, Matteson Real Estate in Brownsville, where he was currently working as a Real Estate Broker.
He served as town lister for West Windsor for several years and was a member of the Brownsville Methodist Church. He coached Babe Ruth Baseball in Windsor. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and idolized his grandchildren. Skip will be remembered as a strong family man who supported all his children's extracurricular activities never missing a game or performance.
Survivors include his loving wife of thirty seven years, Susan of Brownsville, his parents, Elliot and Barbara Matteson of Brownsville, three daughters, Katie Willard and her husband, Chad of Norwich, VT, Emily Matteson-Weld and her husband, David of Windsor, and Molly Tenney and her husband, Jamie of Windsor, five grandchildren, Jack Willard and Clare Willard of Norwich, Alden Weld of Windsor, Matteson Tenney and Hannah Tenney of Windsor, one brother, William Matteson and his wife, Wini of Bath, NH, two sisters, Linda Matteson of Thetford, VT and Nancy Matteson and her husband, David Gross of Clifton Park, NY, his father in law and mother in law, Frank and Jean Wadleigh of Claremont, his brother in law and sister in law, Gary and Andrea Burke of Brownsville, one aunt, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Wednesday evening, July 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Brownsville Methodist Church in West Windsor with the Rev. William Sheldon, Pastor, officiating. Committal services will follow in the Amsden Cemetery in Reading. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Matteson home on Shattuck Hill Road in Brownsville.
