West Lebanon, NH - Ellen S. Tobin, 83, died peacefully April 21, 2018 at the Lebanon Center, Genesis Eldercare Facility in Lebanon, NH. She was born May 17, 1934 in Peabody, MA. the daughter of Zenon R. and Anna (Sifaneck) Zbyszynski.
Ellen grew up in the Polish community in Salem, MA. and graduated from Salem High School in 1951. She married the love of her life, Richard D. Tobin on October 11, 1953 in Salem, MA. while he was serving in the Marine Corp. Ellen traveled with him when possible. They lived in North Carolina, after her husband returned from deployment, later in California. Following his active service came back to Salem MA. for a few years before moving to NH.
In 1963 they moved to Kingston NH where she worked raising the family of Five children. Once the children were on their own, Ellen and husband started an Electronic company that they operated for 10 years.
The adventure did not stop there, later they were Directors of a Museum in Exeter NH for 4 years where Ellen worked in conjunction with an Historian, developing a theme; in addition to hand-picking all colors during the restoration process helping develop what is now known as the "The American Independence Museum". Many other adventures followed, but always along side her husband and partner in life.
Over the years she would become a great seamstress, cook and an excellent baker, but her first responsibility and joy were always as wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. In later years she worked at "Access Sports Medicine" Exeter NH, in Medical Records, a job she enjoyed very much. Retiring after many years in 2010 they move to a retirement community at "Quail Hollow" in West Lebanon NH.
Ellen was a member of St. Denis Church in Hanover, NH, she was predeceased by both parents, Zenon R. and Anna (Sifaneck) Zbyszynski, and her 1 st son Richard J. Tobin. She is survived by her loving husband, of 65 years, Richard "Dick" Tobin of West Lebanon, NH, four daughters and One Son; Sandra A. Mahoney and her husband Steve, of Portsmouth NH, Mary E. Bell and her husband Bob, of Fryeburg ME, Richard J. Tobin II, of Plymouth NH, Judy E. Tobin of Concord NH, and Laurie Tobin Raymond and her husband Gary, of Lancaster PA., 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, two brothers, Raymond Zbyszynski and his wife Liz of Calf., Henry Zbysynski of Calf., as well as many nieces and nephews.
Flowers can be sent to the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. VT., visiting hours
will be held on Friday, April 27, from 9am to 10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 27 at 11AM at St. Dennis Catholic Church in Hanover, NH . Burial will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. A reception for friends and family to share their memories will be held at Alan's of Boscawen, NH .
