IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth 'Betty'
Warner
February 22, 1943 – November 30, 2024
Pittsvield, VT- Elizabeth G. "Betty" (Lofland) Warner, 81, of Pittsfield, Vermont, died Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Lebanon, NH. She was born February 22, 1943, in Belchertown, MA, daughter of the late Richard W. and Jeanette (Emery) Lofland, and her late stepmother, Mable (Tucker) Lofland. Betty and her husband Donald lived in Simsbury, Connecticut for 47 years until his death in 2015, after which she moved to Vermont to begin a new chapter as a full-time artist, activist, and adventurer.
Betty was married at 19 and became a mother at 20 years old. She baked cookies, organized camping trips, and led girl scout and cub scout troops into the 1970s, all while working on an associate's degree in library science. She then began a 20+ year career in Information Technology in 1980, eventually retiring as director of IT at Jen-Coat, Inc. in the early 2000's.
Since retiring, Betty worked tirelessly at the intersection of art and activism. Her work was included in national fiber arts exhibits such as "Broad Changes: Women and Social Justice" and "The Art of Justice: Honoring and Continuing a Movement for Equality through Artistic Expression". She traveled the world to learn about culture, craft, and connections, mostly on her own, seeking out and reflecting back the beauty in all things. She loved her years in Vermont, being exactly who she always wanted to be, in a home steeped in light and art and the soul of the mountain.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Tammy Warner and her husband, Chris Worthen of Swanzey, NH; her two grandchildren, Graham and Katherine (Kay) Campson; brothers, Robert and Charles Lofland, sister, Barbara Lofland, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved neighbors and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald C. Warner, Jr., and son, Jeffrey Scott Warner.
A memorial service will be celebrated Saturday, February 8th, at 11:00 AM at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Betty's family asks that you quietly and intentionally bend the arc of history a little bit more toward justice in her honor.
