Obituary

Elizabeth T. Benedict

Wilder, VT - Elizabeth T. Benedict, 97, died Sunday March 2, 2014, after a brief stay at the Brookside Nursing Home in Wilder.

She was one of the eight children of Joseph and Rose (Allaire) Trottier. Elizabeth grew up in South Royalton, VT where she played on the Women's State High School Basketball championship team. On June 2, 1940 she married to Albert "Bill" Benedict in Sharon, VT. They moved to Wilder, where they raised their family and spent forty four years together before his death in 1984.

Elizabeth worked as a homemaker until her children were older. She then began her career at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH where she worked from 1956 until retiring in 1974. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and knitting as well as making dried flower arrangements. She also enjoyed outdoor activities with her family, especially skiing and skating. Never losing her sense of adventure, she took her first motorcycle ride at age 90, a thrill she repeated most every year since, and at 96 took her first four wheeler ride. More than anything her greatest joy was time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, Bill, a grandson Matthew, two sisters Bertha Monica and Leah Adams and four brothers Rudy, Lucien, Paul and Eugene Trottier.

She leaves her children, Philip Benedict of Northfield, Myriem Moody of White River Jct., and Linda North of Wilder; six grandchildren, Geoffrey, Kaaren and Jason North, Scott and Jay Moody and Daniel Benedict; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother Phillip Trottier of Wilder and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Friday March 7th from 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday March 8th at 1 PM. Committal services will be held in the Hartford Cemetery in the spring.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program at the Bugbee Senior Center, 262 North Main Street, White River Jct., VT 05001.
