Hartford, VT – Elizabeth "Beth" A. Roy, 68, died Tuesday May 29, 2012 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Beth was born December 13, 1943 in Columbia, SC a daughter of John and Mary (McKinnon) Winchester. She grew up and graduated from high school in Marblehead, MA before receiving her nursing degree from the Salem Hospital School of Nursing in Salem, MA. She worked for a time at the Salem Hospital and then as a private duty nurse.
On October 17, 1964 she married Francis J. Roy at the Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead. They lived in West Peabody, MA for several years until moving to Hartford, VT in 1973 where they raised their two children and have lived since.
Beth worked at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct. for almost two decades before beginning at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility in 1992. She remained at Alice Peck Day until she retired.
She was an active member of St. Anthony's Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters, served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister, and taught CCD when her children where young. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for eight years when her daughter was in scouts. More recently, Beth volunteered at the Bugbee Senior Center.
She is survived by her husband of forty seven years, of Hartford; a son David F. Roy of White River Jct. and a daughter Stephanie A. Latta of Denver, CO; a grandson, a step-grandson and two step-granddaughters.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Wednesday, June 6 from 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 7th at 11AM at St. Anthony's Church. Contributions may be made in Beth's memory to the charity of one's choice.
