West Windsor, VT — Elfriede Burton, 90, died Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at her home with loved ones by her side.
Elfriede was born October 3, 1935, in Siegsdorf, Bavaria, Germany, a daughter of Franz and Maria (Mix) Lederer. She was educated in Germany and graduated from high school in 1953. While Wesley Burton was stationed in Germany, the two met, and she later immigrated to the United States. They were married on July 18, 1959, in Windsor and made their home on a small farm in West Windsor. They were later divorced in 1978.
Elfriede worked at the Windsor House Hotel, as a housekeeper in Springfield, and at Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Windsor for several years. Following her retirement, she transformed the farm into the Burton Farm Lodge, Bed & Breakfast, and Christmas Tree Farm, which she operated until 2015.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor and the Windsor Emblem Club. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, and collecting antiques and knickknacks.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Rebeca Burton; two brothers; and six sisters. She is survived by two sons, Charles W. Burton of Newbury, VT, and David Burton of West Windsor.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many people who helped in recent months and to the staff of Bayada Hospice for their dedicated care.
