Eleanor R. Smith
White River Jct., VT – Eleanor R. Smith, 89, died Monday March 4, 2013 at the Homestead at Pillsbury in St. Albans, VT.
She was born October 31, 1923 in St. Albans where she later graduated from Bellows Free Academy Class of 1942. Eleanor began working for New England Telephone Company after graduation. She was transferred to Randolph, VT for a time where she met a fellow telephone company employee, Donald Smith. They were married September 5, 1948 in Randolph. The couple then moved to White River Jct. where they continued working for the phone company and spent the rest of their lives. After retirement they wintered in Clearwater Florida for several decades, even spending a few summers there as well.
Eleanor enjoyed knitting, sewing and cooking. In her later years she also enjoyed spending time and volunteering at the Bugbee Senior Center. She was a devoted member of St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct., and a past member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Forrest-Unity Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sharon, VT.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, in 2003 and her niece Marilyn Pierce in 2006.
She leaves a nephew Robin Pierce of St. Albans and two great nieces Deborah Pierce and Susan Cramer both of Milton, VT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday March 8th at 1PM at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
