Obituary

White River Jct., VT – Eleanor F. Hughes, 66, died Monday December 29th at home in White River Jct.

Eleanor was born June 1, 1948 in Woodsville, NH a daughter of Frank and Marceline (Day) Quimby. She attended school in Hanover, NH and later worked various jobs throughout Vermont and New Hampshire, raising her three children as a single mother. She met her soul mate, Charlie Hughes, in 1979 and has lived in White River Jct. since. They were married in 1989 and Charlie died in 2007.

Eleanor enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and also enjoyed playing other games and may have been a "POGO" addict. She also enjoyed going to the car races at Canaan Motor Speedway but most of all loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eleanor will be fondly remembered by many for her desire to help others in need. In recent years she has enjoyed travelling with her companion, Jim Swetson, in her RV

She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie; a brother Marshall Quimby and a sister Margaret Sweet.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Keller and her husband Rick of Hamilton, TX, Sheri Speikers and her husband John of Center Barnstead, NH and Richard Chandler and his fiancé Lidiya of Copperas Cove, TX; a brother Paul Quimby of Enfield, NH, sisters Robin Royce of Corinth, VT and Linda Kelly of Lockport, NY; grandchildren Nikki, Jeremy, David, Victoria, Katie and Zachary; great-grandchildren Cash, Charlie and Trent as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Saturday January 3rd from 1-3PM. There will be a graveside service in the Hartford Cemetery in the spring.
