Obituary

Elaine G. Hart, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2023, surrounded by close friends.  She was predeceased by her husband Douglas Hart and was a resident of The Village in White River Junction, VT.

Elaine was the daughter of Walter L. and Evelyn Dakin Gustavson and grew up in Rye, NY.

She is survived by a sister Eleanor Holbein of Raleigh, NC; Douglas' children Andy, Barry, Dave, and Diana Hart; nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. A brother Ernest W. Gustavson of Surprise, AZ sadly passed away on January 6, 2024.

The family fondly recognizes Diana Hart. She was Elaine's care advocate in daily decisions. She was always kind and helped to solve any issues that arose, traveling to VT from her home in NJ to visit and help whenever necessary. The family is forever thankful and appreciative of all that she has done.

Elaine graduated from Rye High School and Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. She was an elementary school teacher, teaching in NY and Connecticut.

Elaine was half owner and worked as office manager with her husband in Hart Industries, Easton, Connecticut from 1988 to 2000.

Over the years Elaine had many interests. One being her love of cats, which she worked into a business: Hart Cats, a Siamese cattery. She especially liked going to cat shows around New England showing and selling her cats and kittens.

Another interest of hers was anything to do with needle arts and sewing. She was an accomplished quilter and enjoyed traveling to sewing seminars and retreats, many times with her sister.

The family recognizes The Unitarian Universalist Church of Hartland, VT. Elaine and Doug so enjoyed participating in their activities and the fellowship of the members. It was a fulfilling and rewarding part of their lives.

A memorial service will be scheduled for the spring.
