Obituary

Elaine Jane (Viens) George passed away April 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Elaine was born on Dec. 12, 1934, in Springfield, Mass., the ninth child of George and Delima (Ashline) Viens, Sr. She was married to Franklin E George on Nov. 13, 1954, in Springfield Mass., moving to VT in 1976 after Mr. George retired after 26 years serving his country. Mrs. George went to work for the State of VT. First for public records in Montpelier then transferring to the White River Office of the Health Dept., retiring in 1996. She was an avid reader and loved to knit, crochet, and do crafts. Elaine loved to bowl, play bingo, and watch the Red Sox, going to Fenway to see them over 100 times. But most of all she loved her family, and loved being with them, especially her grandchildren. Elaine was a member of the Hartford Emblem Club #150, life member of the Supreme Emblem Club of The United States, life member of the VFW auxiliary and the American Legion auxiliary. She held many offices in the Emblem Club including being President several times, was State President of the VT State Association of Emblem Clubs twice and held offices on the national level of the Emblem Club. Mrs. George bowled in forty national tournaments all over the United States. Having been to every state except Hawaii. She loved VT the best. Traveling with her husband in the Air Force, she was in five different countries and spoke three languages. Elaine was a volunteer driver for the association of the Blind and Visually impaired, for her Church and for the Bugbee senior center, where she also volunteered as a waitress, and with the VNH foot clinic, was a Den Mother in Cub Scouts, taught children to knit and crochet, she was also a certified coach to teach children to bowl. Mrs. George is survived by her loving husband, Franklin, of nearly seventy years, her son, Franklin E George, Jr., his wife, Peggy, and her wonderful grandchildren, Franklin E. George, 3rd and Corinne E.A. George. She leaves behind many cousins, and four generations of nieces and nephews. The two nieces who were close to her, Darlene, and Deborah whom she dearly loved. She was predeceased by her four brothers, George J. Viens, Jr. Arthur J. Viens, Raymond J. Viens and Ernest R. Viens, four sisters, Leona R. Richards, Priscilla P. Faivre, Gertrude M. Tyburski and Florence E. Viens; a nephew, David Tyburski, and great nephew, Brian Tyburski, and her nieces, Delima Collette and Brenda Francis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Anthony's Church, where Elaine was a member, Thursday, April 25th at 11AM. Committal will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center at 11AM on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, where the Emblem Club will conduct their service.
