Edward E. Williamson
White River Jct., VT – Edward E. Williamson, 90, passed away Sunday April 25, 2010 at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct. following a brief illness.
He was born in New York City April 1, 1920 a son of Edward and Edla (Saari) Williamson. Eddie grew up on Pike Hill in Corinth, VT where he attended the Pike Hill School. He left High School to help run his family's farm during the Great Depression before entering the military during World War II. He served from March 1941 to September 1945, which included a nine month tour in Europe with the 3rd Army. He lived in Bradford, VT from 1945 to 1965, before moving his family to White River Jct. In 1985, he "retired", after working many years as the transportation foreman at P&C Corporation but continued to hold many part-time jobs in the years that followed.
Ed was an avid golfer for most of his life. He was also a Life Member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. In his later years he enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and playing the mandolin.
He was predeceased by his former wife of 25 years, Helen (Santaw) Williamson and two of their children, Larry and Barry Williamson as well as a younger brother Tauno and sister Helen who died in infancy.
He leaves his wife, Lillian Williamson, with whom he had just marked thirty years of marriage on the day before his death. He is also survived by four children from his previous marriage Dennis Williamson of Sarasota, FL, Kevin Williamson of Bradford, VT, Donna Williamson of Bridgewater Center, VT and Brian Williamson South Royalton, VT as well as a granddaughter Christal Spencer and a grandson Barry Williamson Jr. and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday May 1st at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. at 11AM. A committal service with military honors will follow later that day at 2PM in the Sawyer Cemetery in Bradford, VT.
