White River Jct., VT – Edward "Ed" Willey, a lifelong resident of White River Junction, VT, peacefully passed away early Monday morning, August 5, 2024, after a brave two-year battle with cancer. Surrounded by his cherished grandchildren, daughter, and beloved wife, Ed expressed his readiness to let go from his hospital bed at the Veterans Administration Hospital shortly before his passing.

He was born March 15, 1956 in Lebanon, NH the son of Clesson S. and Elizabeth (Roberts) Willey. Ed attended the Hartford High School and then started his career in construction.  He married Cathy Moffitt, a Lebanon native whom he met at Toni's Pizza in Hanover, NH. They made their home on Connecticut River Road, where they spent 44 wonderful years together.

For several years, Ed worked alongside his brother Scott Willey in a successful roofing business before transitioning to a career as a skilled finish carpenter and painter. His expertise and self-employment marked the majority of his professional life.

When he wasn't working, Ed could often be found in the woods, indulging in his love for hunting. His passion for the outdoors grew even more profound with the arrival of his granddaughter, whom he delighted in teaching the ways of the woods. Ed was immensely proud of his three grandchildren, Skye, Hunter, and Kayli and never missed any of their sporting events, dance recitals, or music concerts. His family believes that their presence was a source of strength for him throughout his illness.

Ed was known for his few but meaningful words, always spoken with thoughtfulness, kindness, and common sense. He had a deep affection for animals and took great pride in maintaining a pristine lawn. In his later years, he found joy in spending time on his mower, a testament to his enduring dedication to his home.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Willey; daughter, Sara Willey-Whitcomb; grandchildren, Skye, Hunter, and Kayli Whitcomb; brothers, Scott Willey (Cathy) and Robert "Cubby" Willey (Jan); sister, Rhonda Dyke (Earl); best friend and longtime hunting buddy, John Daigle; and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Ed's wishes, there will be no services at this time. Memorial contributions can be made to Cancer Research at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, VT.
