NH- Edward I. Owsianik, 95, died Tuesday evening, May 20, 2014 at the Lebanon CenterGenesis Elder Care in Lebanon, NH. He was born May 24, 1918 in Bridgeport, Connecticut the son of Adam and Anna (Zemajtuk)Owsianik. He grew up and attended schools in Connecticut. After graduation he worked for a time at the Hartford Courant as a bookkeeper. Later he went to work at Pratt and Whitney where he also was employed as a bookkeeper and truck driver. He enlisted in the Army on October 7, 1940 in Meriden, Connecticut and went on active duty on February 24,1941. He served as a Staff Sargeant T/3 during WWII with the 355th Ordnance Maintenance Company and was stationed in the Western Pacific/South Philippines until the demobilization of his company in Fort Devens, Massachusetts on the 11th of October in 1945. On September 13, 1950 he married Arlene Luce in Alexandria Virginia. For a time they continued to live in Meriden CT and then in Vernon CT until they moved to the Upper Valley in 1962 and he took a job at St. Johnsbury Trucking as a truck driver working out of the Bellows Falls Terminal until 1983. Following that he drove school bus for the Lebanon School District. He worked for a time at Purity Supreme in the Deli department until 2000 when he went to work at LaValley's Building Supply in West Lebanon, NH until his retirement in 2003. Mrs. Owsianik died February 11, 2007. Ed loved woodworking, polka music and visiting with his family and many friends. He was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lebanon, NH. Ed was predeceased by his wife and four sisters, Rose Owsianik, Josephine Modelski, Wanda Bovino and Helen Cello. He is survived by his son, Gregory G. Owsianik of West Lebanon, NH, his only granddaughter, Holly L. Owsianik and her partner Don Vogt of Woodsville, NH. Holly was raised by Ed and Arlene from infancy; a brother, John Owsianik of Southington, CT as well as many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening, May 27, from 6-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, May 28, at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon, NH.
