WINDSOR, VT
Edward H. "Ted" Banks, 94, a resident of Windsor, passed away Saturday morning, July 17 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor.
He was born February 16, 1916 in England, the son of Henry Edward and Florence (Fosdyke) Banks. He received his schooling in England. He married Daisy Moloney on January 3, 1940. While in England he worked in Aeronautics during World War II as an airplane machinist. In 1946, they moved to Canada where he continued working in Aeronautics. In 1960, they moved to the United States, residing in Bedford, MA. Mr. Banks worked at AVCO in Wilmington, MA, assisting in the development of telescopes parts used in the Gemini and Apollo Spacecrafts. In 1979 he started his own company, EDTECH, in Bedford, MA, developing prototype parts used in cancer research, and the early stages of computers. He retired in 1985 and moved to Keene, NH, where he and his wife began "Upstairs, Downstairs", collecting and selling British commemoratives in Keene. Mrs. Banks passed away in 1998. Ted moved to the Mt. Ascutney Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor in 1999, where he met Genevera Devitt Ward, they where married in the courtyard of the nursing facility on July 3, 2001. She passed away on February 4, 2002.
Ted was a longtime member of the Masons and Shriners, and served as a deacon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bedford, MA. He was honored as volunteer of the year by Mt. Ascutney Hospital for his service in the hospital gift shop.
He greatly enjoyed fishing, gardening and photography. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was also predeceased by his brother, Walter Banks and son in law, Thomas Johnston.
Survivors include, one daughter, Linda Johnston and her fiancé, Ron Kennett of Hartland, VT, five sons, Terrence Banks and his wife, Cecile of Pepperell, MA, David Banks and his wife, Suzanne of Cudjoe Key, FL, Richard Banks and his wife, Kathleen of Milwaukee, WI, Thomas Banks and his wife, Beth of Wilmington, NC and Allan Banks and his wife, Kim of Sacramento, CA, eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
At his request, funeral services will be held at the convenience of his family. The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor assisted with the arrangements.
