Obituary

Norwich, Vt. Edith Mildred Lupien, 90, died Thursday, February 26 at Valley Terrace in White River Jct, Vt. She was born in Springfield, Vt on the 26th of March, 1924, the ninth child of Effie Maclean Robinson and John Robinson.

She attended public schools in Springfield, graduated from Springfield High School in 1942 and went on to study at Providence Bible Institute. Returning to Springfield, she worked for several years as secretary at Parks and Woolsons. In 1954 she was married to Ulysses "Tony" Lupien. The Lupiens moved to Norwich in 1962, entering community life with great spirit and raising their daughters there. Tony died in 2005 and Millie eventually moved a few years later to Valley Terrace.

In addition to her husband, Millie was pre-deceased by her siblings Marion Robinson Hatt, Eleanor Robinson Peloquin, Jack Robinson, Ray Robinson, Kenneth Robinson, William Robinson, Richard Robinson and Althea Robinson.

She is survived by daughters Suzanne Lupien of Norwich and Elizabeth Lupien and husband Stephen Sewell of St Paul, Minnesota.

She is survived by stepdaughters Diana Bacon and husband Rich Bacon, Judith Enright and husband Vincent Enright, and Carol Cena and partner Rober Janes.

She leaves grandchildren Chandler Woodall, Marshall Woodall and wife Cecilia, Debbie Draper and husband Les, Christopher Enright and wife Misty, Natalie Enright Jerger and husband Christopher, Steven Cena, John Cena, Daniel Cena and wife Janet, Matthew Cena and wife Coverly, and Sean Cena.

She leaves great-grandchildren Andie and Noah Draper, Addison Enright, and Shelby, Noelle and Ashlynn Cena.

Millie lived a full life and will be missed by many people in all walks of life. Residing in Norwich for 50 years, she participated in The Norwich School Library as volunteer librarian. She worked tirelessly at The Norwich Fair Rummage Sale, drove kids to Ford Sayre, contributing deeply to her beloved community with great spirit and practical help.

She fed everybody who walked through her front door, putting on memorable feasts for scores of hungry Dartmouth athletes and naturally becoming second mom to them.

She loved her Scottish and Irish heritage and was a proud member of The Twin States Scots. She was a member of the Norwich Congregational Church, and pursued her deep interest in Norwich history and that of her home on Meetinghouse Hill. Her love of gardens and flowers led her to start The Norwich Flower Shop which she ran to the highest standard of quality and service for ten years. Later in life she took up watercolor painting which gave her enormous pleasure.

Her quick wit and humor only improved with age and during her last years at Valley Terrace her spirit helped everyone keep going right up to her last day.

The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Terrace for their excellent loving care of Millie and for becoming a valued part of her life.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Norwich Historical Society in her name, or to the charity of your choice.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, March 4 from 4 to 7 pm at Knight Funeral Home in 903 Hartford Avenue, White River Jct. and a memorial service will be held at the Norwich Congregational Church on Sunday, March 8 at 3 pm. All are welcome.
