Obituary

Reading, Vermont – Douglas Roy Alexander Sr., 61, died unexpected Friday, March 14, 2014 at his home in Reading, VT. He was born April 8, 1952 in Windsor, VT the son of Wendall and Laura A. (Newton) Alexander. He grew up in Reading and graduated from Woodstock High School. After graduation he worked as a carpenter in and around the Reading, VT, Woodstock, VT area. Doug felt a strong and deep spiritual connection to the earth, nature and the animals. He shared and lived a respect with the ways of the native Americans and the simpler ways of life. He was a strong and powerful man with a good sense of humor who loved spending time with his family and close friends.

Doug was predeceased by his father Wendall Alexander, four brothers, Paul, Carroll, Arthur and Alden as well as one nephew.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Alexander of Reading, VT, his two sons, Leighton Alexander of Woodstock, VT, Douglas "DJ" R. Alexander Jr of Brownsville, VT, daughter, Stephinie Alexander of Cavendish, VT, two step daughters, Jamila Elmaksoud of Allston, MA, Nadia Elmaksoud of Lebanon NH, nine grandchildren, his mother, Laura A. Griggs of Reading, VT, his sister, Virginia A. Barr of Reading, VT and a nephew.

A memorial gathering will be held Thursday evening, March 20, from 6-8 PM at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor, VT. A summertime memorial service will be held at a later date at his home in Reading, VT.
