Obituary

WHITE RIVER JCT., VT- Dorothy R. Smith, 93, of White River Jct., died peacefully at the home of her niece on Sunday, February 6.

" Dorty" was born October 07, 1917 in Lock Haven, PA the daughter of Ralph G. and Caroline (Young) Smith. She graduated from Belleville High School in Belleville, NJ at the age of sixteen. She had planned to study medicine but due to illness of her mother she attended secretarial school in New York City. Dorty then worked for several years at the American Color Type Osborne Company and Brook and Park Company in Montclair, NJ. In 1963 she moved to the Upper Valley to live with her sisters in Lebanon, NH. Dorothy worked for the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth for twenty years before retiring in 1982.

Having never married, she devoted her life to the care of her extended family.
"Dorty" enjoyed sewing, gardening, shopping and bowling. In her later years she loved crossword puzzles and playing scrabble.

Dorothy was predeceased by her three sisters, Isabel E. Druhl, Carolyn R. Smith and Adeline Y. Orton and her nephew Jonathan D. Druhl.

She is survived by 3 half brothers, Thomas Smith of AK, Ralph Smith of PA, and James Smith of MO, nephews Howard J. Druhl of NC, Michael Druhl of Corinth VT, Keith Druhl of Claremont N.H. also nieces Anne Jenisch of Corinth VT, Carolyn Fryer of Norwich VT, and Joanne Brown of White River Jct. VT.

She was grateful to Joanne, Bill and Casey Brown for their support during her years of declining health.

The Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT assisted with arrangements. Per Dorothy's wishes there will be a private family service in the spring.
