Dorothy B. Hamlin, 74, a longtime resident of Windsor passed away quietly Saturday evening, June 26, at her families' home in Windsor with the love, support and friendship that had surrounded her during her last days.
Dot was born July 21, 1935 in Tunbridge, Vermont the only daughter of Cecil and Hazel (Wheelock) Blake. She moved with her family to Windsor as a young girl. She received her schooling in Windsor and graduated with honors from Windsor High School in 1956. She married Paul A. Hamlin in Windsor on September 2, 1956. She began her working career at the former Windsor Federal Bank and later at Vermont National Bank. In 1972 she started her employment as a bookkeeper at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor, working for several years until her retirement. She returned to part time work at the Windsor Covered Bridge Credit Union as a teller, enjoying the townspeople of Windsor.
The major theme to thread Dorothy's life was that of family and friendships. She loved attending and following Windsor High School Yellow Jacket's sporting events, enjoying many hours of rooting on family members and athletes of her home town. Dot was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading. While she led a humble life, her wisdom, love, kindness and wit will long be remembered by those who lives' she touched.
Her husband Paul, whom she was happily married to for twenty four years, passed away on August 4, 1980. She was also predeceased by one brother, Bobby Blake in 1965.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Woodbury and her husband, Ed of Cornish, NH, and Karen Dunham and her husband, Mike of Windsor, three grandchildren, Caitlin Woodbury, D.C. of Cornish, Bryan Woodbury of Windsor and Bob Howe of Windsor, two stepchildren, Katrina Hill of Windsor and Greg Balch of Windsor, two brothers, Raymond Blake and his wife Beverly of Windsor and Donald Blake of Florida, one sister in law, Marianne Blake of Windsor, many nieces and nephews, all of whom were an important part of her world.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Wednesday evening, June 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1 at 11:00 AM at the Old South Congregational Church in Windsor, with the Rev. Amanda Lape-Freeberg, Pastor, officiating. Committal services will follow in the family lot in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall.
