White River Jct., VT – Doris Maria Sprang, 90, died peacefully, early Easter morning, April 17, at her home on Country Lane in White River Jct., VT. Doris was born May 31, 1931 in Sternberg, Czechoslovakia the daughter of Rudolf and Herlinde Hackenberg.

She grew up in Germany and was married to Peter G. Sprang in Frankfurt in 1955. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Spokane, WA. Doris and Peter moved to Connecticut in 1958 where they raised their four children. In 1970 the family purchased the Maple Leaf Motel in White River Jct., VT.

With considerable amount of work the Motel was fully restored and they soon added a campground.

Her primary job was raising the children, but Doris was very much involved in the operations of their business and also worked part time as a nurse's aid at Brookside Nursing Home, Mary Hitchcock Medical Center as well as some private home care.

Reading, caring for her gardens and cooking for her family were some of her favorite hobbies.

Doris was predeceased by two daughters, Ruby Sprang and Jean Sprang and her husband Peter who died April 27, 2016.

She is survived by her daughter, Miranda Sprang of White River Jct., VT, her son, Michael Sprang and his wife, Cheryl of Essex, NY, five grandchildren, Rose, Hope, Victor, Joy and Jason, five great-grandchildren also one brother, Ingo Peschel of Germany.

A life celebration is planned for a later date at Doris' home. The Sprang family wants to thank the Knight Funeral Home for their guidance and care.
