Norwich, VT- Doris Carol Noblit, 86, died Monday, August 14, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family after having survived five cancer treatments for three different cancers over a period of 14 years. Her remarkable strength and acceptance was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Carol was born September 19, 1930 in Plymouth, MI, daughter of Frank and Avis Waldecker. She spent her childhood on a farm and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1947. She earned a Bachelor of Music from University of Michigan Ann Arbor, a Master of Education from Queens College and a Master of Performance on the trombone from SUNY Stony Brook. She began her teaching career as a young mother giving private guitar lessons in her home on Long Island. In 1965 she began teaching music in elementary school. She taught at several schools on Long Island before retiring in 1992, when she moved to Newport, VA to be with her daughter and grandchildren. In 2001 she relocated with them to Norwich, VT.

Carol was a talented musician and loved to play guitar and sing as well as teach. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and hiking, especially in the Adirondacks. She loved yoga and was an active yoga teacher until age 82. Carol was an accomplished carpenter and handyperson. She restored an abandoned farmhouse when she moved to Virginia, which she always said was her soul's true home. She was an avid gardener and grew beautiful flowers and an abundance of vegetables each summer. Carol was also an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She created an array of heirloom quilts and clothes for her grandchildren that are treasured by her family.

Carol is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Harley Cudney of Norwich, VT, and her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Tricia Noblit of Port Jefferson, NY.
