Donald Mitchell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach and friend, passed away on July 28 ^th after a long period of declining health. Donald was a loving person with a wicked sense of humor; famous for making people laugh, delivering constant one-liners and his inappropriate right-wing posts on Facebook.

Donald was born on April 23, 1961, to Donald and Marjorie Mitchell of Hinsdale, NH. Donald and his sister Suzanne, of Port St. Lucie Florida, were raised in Northfield, MA. During his teenage years, Donald was a member of the New Life Singers gospel choir of Vernon VT.

Donald graduated from Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls, MA in June of 1980. That September, at the recommendation of a friend, he accepted a job as a cook at Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon, NH. He worked at APD for his whole career, most recently as the lead chef at Harvest Hill.

A lifelong hunter, trap shooter, and gun enthusiast, Donald was a lifetime member of the Grafton County Fish and Game Club. He looked forward to hunting season all year, saving up his vacation and spending all of his time in the fields hunting pheasants with his German Wirehaired Pointers and then hunting deer with bow, rifle, and muzzleloader. He shot his biggest deer with a muzzleloader from a deer stand on the mountain behind his house in West Fairlee during his last hunting season.

Donald was also a coach. He started coaching Little League in Strafford, VT in 1985, and again in West Fairlee in the 1990's, and basketball at Westshire School in 2000's. He began coaching Rivendell JV softball and moved on to coach Varsity softball until his last softball season was canceled due to the pandemic.

In 1983, Donald married his high school sweetheart Coralie Roberts, and together they built a home  filled with kids, dogs, and laughter. Donald loved presiding over huge family dinners, and spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially going to their sports events and teaching them to hunt and shoot: John Thomas, of Blue Hill, ME, Chris Mitchell and his partner Callie Grant of Enfield, NH; Matt Follansbee and his wife Erin of Randolph, VT; Penny (Mitchell) Rouse and her husband Adam of Cross Junction, VA, and Karen (Mitchell) Ward and her husband Chad Ward of Vershire, VT; along with Shannon Higgins and his wife Amanda of Strafford, VT and Aron Vance of West Fairlee, VT and many beloved grandchildren. Donald's son Roger McMahon died in 2016.
