Donald Eugene Burch
White River Jct., VT – Donald Eugene Burch, 91, died Sunday August 8th at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct., VT.
Born February 6, 1919 in Pomfret, VT a son of Edmund and Catherine (Tullar) Burch, he grew up in Pomfret where he attended the Hewittville one room schoolhouse. During World War II Mr. Burch served in the US Army serving with the 995th Field Artillery Battery B and was a decorated veteran of campaigns in: North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. After returning home from the war he was married to Irene Mower, November 2, 1945 in Windsor, VT. They made their home in North Hartland until 1957 when they moved to White River Jct. where he has lived since. Mr. Burch worked as a spinner at local woolen mills including Dewey's Mills in Quechee, Bridgewater Woolen in Bridgewater and Baltic Mills in Enfield. After the mills closed he began working at the P&C warehouse in White River Jct. until his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Burch was well known for his kindness and generosity and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was an avid reader, a fan of the Boston Red Sox, and an avid collector of baseball cards.
He was predeceased by his wife March 15, 1998 as well as by a brother Edward Burch and three sisters Mildred White, Edith Kelly and Ethel Lovering.
He is survived by two sons Leonard R. Burch of White River Jct, who served as a companion and caregiver for several years. and Theodore Burch of Dolgeville, NY; a daughter Paulette D. Linkous of Christiansburg, VA; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three brothers Glenn Burch of Bethel, VT, Robert Burch of Ascutney, VT and William Burch of Vershire, VT; a sister Gladys Perkins of Vershire, VT; several nieces and nephews, he is also survived by devoted cocker spaniel Jasmine.
Private graveside services will be held in the Hartland Village Cemetery in Hartland, VT.
