Diya Sarojini Mathur passed away at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on June 19, 2010. She was five years old and is survived by her parents, Roopesh and Sumitha Mathur and brother Nikhil Mathur of Lebanon; grandparents Mr. Brij Kunwar Chandra and Mrs.and Mr. Prahlad Kumar Mathur of Hyderabad, India; family friends in the Upper Valley; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins across the United States and India.
Diya lived her short but eventful life in the Upper Valley, and made it her home. She was beloved by her teachers and caregivers at Mimo's Day Care/WMCC, Upper Valley Music Center and the Potter's House School. She was bright, outgoing and compassionate and made friends with everybody who crossed her path. She loved participating in the events organized by the Indian community in the Upper Valley, playing violin at UVMC concert recitals, reading and learning. She was a doting big sister to her baby brother, Nikhil, whose name she picked. Diya lived the last two years in the shadow of a rare genetic disorder, which ultimately claimed her life, but did not let it dampen her zest for life and the love for those around her. She truly lived up to her name, which means "lamp" in Hindi. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Services will be held at the Knight Funeral Home at 903 Hartford Avenue, White River Junction, VT on June 24 (Thursday) from 3 PM.
