Ascutney, Vermont - Delbert F. Chase, 85, died peacefully Thursday, April 29, 2021, at his home in Ascutney surrounded by his family. He was born at the family home in Brookfield, Vermont on October 13, 1935, to Daniel Chester and Viola Josephine (Stevens) Chase. He spent his youth working on the family farm and enlisted in the US Army in 1952, during the Korean conflict and was stationed on the 38 th parallel in the Demilitarized Zone. He was married to the love of his life and partner in all things, Sandy Jean Lashway on November 16, 1957. They initially made their home in Brookfield, operating Chase Farms on West Street and moved to Ascutney in 1964 where Delbert worked in trucking, eventually working up to running their own business. From 1979 until 1999, he and Sandy owned and operated D&S Trucking out of Ascutney, Vermont and Sun City, Florida. He loved seeing the United States through all the seasons, with Sandy always at his side. After their retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Florida and he spent time tinkering in his garage.
Delbert was a Mason and belonged to the Brookfield Masonic Lodge for well over 50 years. He loved spending time and keeping in touch with his friends and family. Whether it was organizing a hunting trip or exchanging Christmas cards, friends and family were always dear to him and he always made time for those he loved.
He is survived by his son, Delbert C. Chase of Brookfield; three sisters, Ardis Longley of New York, Priscilla Mixon and husband Mickey of Brookfield and Florida, and Melanie Larocque of Brookfield; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandy Jean Chase; and one brother, Wallace D. Chase.
