WINDSOR, VT
Dee "Joyce" Brooks, 75, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Thursday morning, March 22 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor after a year long battle with breast cancer.
She was born at home in Hartford, VT on March 23, 1942 to Carroll C. and Dorothy (Lashua) Brooks. She received her schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1960. She then was employed as a telephone operator for the former New England Telephone Company (located above the current Windsor Pizza Chef) in Windsor. She later worked for the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a switchboard operator. She then moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL for 8 years, where she was a Podiatrist receptionist. Dee formed several friendships that she held until her passing. She returned to Vermont where she began her employment at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in White River Junction for over 25 years.
For a time, Dee had her own pet sitting business and also volunteered as a patient sitter at Mt. Ascutney Hospital, and worked as a teacher's aide at the Cornish Elementary School. She enjoyed walking, the sun, mysteries books, and old classic movies as well as all animals, particularly cats and horses. Her favorite activity was spending time with her only grandchild, Helen.
She was predeceased by her parents, and her 7 siblings, Donald, Barbara, Helen, Roger, Madeline, Hazel and Jane.
Survivors include one son, Jade Ennis and his wife, Annalise, one granddaughter, Helen Ennis, all of Brownsville, VT, and many nieces and nephews.
At her request a private graveside service will be held at the convenience of her family at a later date in the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Windsor.
