Obituary
Hartland, Vermont - Dean Henry Westenfeld, 54 died Wednesday February 18, after a logging accident in Hartland. He was born September 19, 1960 in Peekskill NY, the son of Fritz and Gerda Westenfeld.
Henry grew up in Quechee VT and graduated from Hartford high school in 1979. On Aug. 24th 1985, Henry married his best friend and love of his life, Melanie Fisk. Together they built their home and family in Hartland, VT. He lived to see both his children become successful professional adults which was his main priority in life. His two proudest moments were watching his son, Tucker, graduate college with a degree in forestry, and his daughter, Callie, graduate college with a degree in nursing.
Henry worked as a builder until he started his own business as a building contractor in 1987. Henry was an exceptional carpenter, building and renovating many homes and business in the upper valley and beyond. In addition to his contracting business he and his son Tucker owned and operated T & H logging and firewood.
The most important thing in Henrys life was his family and his beloved animals, past and present. Every summer weekend you could find him with his family and friends at their camp on Newark Pond. He loved competing in primitive biathlons. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and woodsman.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie Westenfeld of Hartland, VT, a daughter, Callie Ann Westenfeld, 22, of Hartland, VT, a son, Tucker Dean Westenfeld, 25, of Hartland, VT, his mother, Gerda Westenfeld, of Norddorf, Germany, a brother, Fred Westenfeld, of South Burlington, VT as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Henry was predeceased by his father who died October, 2nd, 2007.
A life celebration will be held Tuesday, February 24th, 2015, with an informal gathering from 1-3PM at the Elks Lodge on Route 14 Hartford Village, VT, a celebration of life at 3PM and a reception to follow.
