David J. Williams

Wilder, VT – David J. Williams, 86, died Sunday November 6th at home in Wilder.

Mr. Williams was born January 9, 1925 in Ludlow, VT a son of William C. and Dora (Fuller) Williams. After graduating as a member of the last class at Black River Academy in Ludlow he joined the US Army. Dave served with the Army in European Theatre in France, Belgium and Germany including the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he returned to Vermont and worked briefly for the Red Cross at the Veteran's Administration in White River Jct. In 1947 he began working for the Veteran's Administration where he met Edith Stevens, they were married December 23, 1948 in her hometown of Woodstock, VT. Dave spent the next thirty years progressing his career at the VA including earning his Master's of Business Administration from Columbia State University. He retired as Assistant Chief of Medical Administration due to a medical disability.

The Williams spent many Winters in warmer weather including Florida and California. As a people person he enjoyed socializing and spending time talking with others. In his retirement Dave worked part time for the Briggs Clothing Store in White River Jct. and served on the Board of Directors of the Bugbee Senior Center. He also enjoyed reading and traveling including a very memorable trip to Yugoslavia.

Mr. Williams was a member of the First Congregational Church in Woodstock, an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, both at the state level as Past Patron of the State of Vermont and locally, first in White River Jct. as a member and Past Patron of the Wenona Chapter 43 and more recently as a member of the Forrest-Unity Chapter 82 in Sharon. He was also a member the Free & Accepted Masons United Brethren Lodge 21 in White River Jct., the Mt. Sinai Shrine 46 in Montpelier, a life member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 2571 and a member of American Legion Post 26 both in White River Jct., VT. Dave also visited much of the State of Vermont as a member of the Vermont 251 Club. While at the VA Mr. Williams served on the Board of Directors of the VA Credit Union and was President of the VA Employees Association.

He is survived by his wife of over sixty years, Edith of Wilder; a son Stevens Williams and his wife Sherri Yoshizu of Mill Valley, CA; two grandchildren Simon and Ellis Williams; a sister Doreen Hunt of Charlestown, NH and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Dorma Kivler and a brother Duane C. Williams.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 2PM at the First Congregational Church in Woodstock.
