David Thomas Santaw
Wilder, VT – David Thomas Santaw, 68, died Tuesday February 2, at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct., VT.
He was born May 31, 1942 in Hanover, NH a son of Antoine and Grace (Doyle) Santaw. David graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1960 and enlisted in the US Air Force. He served for twenty two years as a Security Policeman in Vietnam, Thailand, Goose Bay Labrador, Offutt AFB in Nebraska, Plattsburgh AFB in New York, Clark AFB in the Philippines, Otis AFB on Cape Cod and retired as Superintendant of Law Enforcement at Loring AFB in Maine, where he served for 10 years. After retiring from the Air Force in 1982 he worked for at time as a Veteran's Affairs Policeman at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct. and then in private security before retiring.
Dave was married to Emily Dodge in 1970 in White River Jct.; they have lived in Wilder since his retirement from the Air Force.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2571, the American Legion Post 26 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3 all in White River Jct. as well as the Tan Son NHUT Assn and the Loring Ramp Rats.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed flea markets.
David is predeceased by a brother Donald Santaw and three sisters Gloria Bryar, Loraine Santaw Adam Caron and Flora Blair.
He is survived by his wife, Emily of forty one years, two daughters Elizabeth Rathburn and her husband Scott of West Hartford and Heather Woolbert and her husband Terry of Wilder; a son Mark Santaw and his wife Jane of Woodbridge, VA; seven grandchildren, Brittany and Rachel Rathburn, Sean and Glenn Rielly, Angela Woolbert and Justin and Christian Santaw; a sister Sheila Cameron of Encinitas, CA as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT Friday March 4th from 6-8PM. A memorial service will be celebrated Saturday March 5th at 11AM at the Wilder Community Center in Wilder, VT.
