Obituary

Sharon, VT – David S. Renn, 71, died at his home on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Dave was born on September 19, 1953, in Rockville, NY, the son of David J. and Florence (Hanson) Renn.

In 1965, his family relocated to South Londonderry, VT. He graduated from Burr and Burton High School in Manchester, VT in 1971. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he was introduced to the electrical trade as an aviation electrician. Following his honorable discharge, Dave returned home and founded Silver Star Electric, working as a master electrician.

Years later; in 1982, after a softball game, Dave reconnected with a former classmate, Karen Slade. They married the following year and made their home in South Londonderry. In 1995 he began working at the Vermont Castings Foundry as the plant electrician. A few years after Dave and Karen moved to Sharon, VT, where they have lived since.

He was a proud member of the Ludlow American Legion Post 36. Dave was an avid fisherman who loved blasting classic rock, tinkering with small engines, and inventing or improving various products. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.

Dave is survived by his wife, Karen Renn of Sharon; his children, Thomas Smallwood of Hartland, VT, and Nadene Smallwood of Brunswick, ME; 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; and his three sisters, Beverly Taylor of Kings Park NY, Debbie Gormal of Northport, NY, and Doloris Renn of Windsor, VT.
