David Capen Reeves died in Norwich Vermont on February 12, 2024, about a week before his 85th birthday. He passed away in his home of the last 40 years, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Drew Reeves, his son, J. David and partner Amanda Sorensen; his son Benjamin and wife Jessica Baldwin-Philippi, a grandson, Jack, and siblings Ann, Mariel, and Paul.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel. David was born on February 20, 1939, in Dalton, Nebraska. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1957. He received his undergraduate degree from Occidental College and went on to study at Union Theological Seminary and the University of Göttingen before receiving his PhD from Harvard University in 1971. He taught history, Greek and religion at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago until 1981 before becoming an investor and financial advisor.

David loved life. He was deeply grateful to live in the Upper Valley and for the many friendships he developed over the years. He loved tending zinnias in his hilltop garden (and defending them from the Japanese Beetles that loved them too), studying markets and geopolitical events (and telling you all about them), being a lifelong athlete (and clamshell evangelist), improvising variations of "My Funny Valentine" on the piano, and reading tomes about history and philosophy. He was a devoted spectator of Hanover High Soccer for decades after his sons graduated.

He gave many hours to his community, contributing to The Family Place, More than Wheels, Our Court, and the Dresden School District Athletic Advisory Board. In his later years he was grateful for the kind and exceptional care he received from the staff at the Dartmouth Cancer Center.
