Obituary

Dr. David T. Lamb, DVM

South Strafford, VT – Dr. David Thorne Lamb, DVM, 70, died peacefully at his home on St. Patrick's Day, Friday, March 17, 2023, with his family by his side. David was born on October 24, 1952, in Hanover, NH, to Robert Bleakie and Anita Thorne Lamb and grew up in Woodstock, VT, on Rolling Ridge Farm, where his love of horses was fostered. After his undergraduate studies at UVM, he pursued his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis. He dedicated his life to his equine veterinary practice, always putting what was best for the animal ahead of all else. David took his time to work with each animal and he became known for his kindness, patience, and unique abilities. He invested time and energy into mentoring members of the horse community, willingly sharing his knowledge and expertise with vet students, horse owners, and fellow veterinarians. As a member and past president of the Vermont Board of Veterinary Medicine he worked to ensure a high standard of animal care in the state.

Although his veterinary work was paramount, he also took time to give back to his community and have fun. Over the years he actively supported his community in South Strafford, including serving on the zoning board and the Lion's Club, volunteering at the annual rabies clinics, and being a volunteer ski instructor at the Newton School. When he wasn't working he enjoyed fishing, skiing, and reading a good book. Thanksgiving meant skeet shooting and time laughing and enjoying a good meal with his family. And he always relished thoughtful conversation over a good beer and raw oysters, especially on Sanibel Island.

David is survived by his children Samuel Eldridge and wife Nicole and their children Owen and Lucas, Amanda Eldridge and husband Noah Ponzio, Jessica Swift and partner Matthew Paille, and Rebekah Lamb; siblings Dinah Bain and husband Charlie, Elizabeth Lamb, Barbara Lamb, and Richard Lamb and partner Terri Morris; nieces and nephews Sarah Franklin-Lamb, Beverly Franklin, Jennifer Takahashi, Timothy Bain, Jeffrey Wermuth, and Stefanie Garzoli.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Nancy Franklin.
