Brownsville, VT- David Michael DiFrancesco, 65, passed away on May 5, 2025, in Rutland, Vermont, with loved ones by his side, after a recent period of seizures and declining health.

Born on February 7, 1960, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to Marie Mauchan DiFrancesco and Salvatore (Sam) William DiFrancesco, David lived a life filled with love, laughter, and deep connection. Though he had Down syndrome and autism and never used speech to communicate, David had a remarkable ability to express affection and happiness in his own unique way. His presence was gentle, his spirit radiant, and his smile unforgettable.

David found joy in life's simple pleasures – he especially loved going for car rides, listening to his favorite music, and wrapping himself in the comfort of a favorite quilt or blanket – something that always brought him a sense of peace. A gastronomic aficionado, he loved hanging out in the kitchen during meal preparation especially if scallops or pasta were on the stove. When it came to desserts, no cookies, cake, and especially ice cream escaped his watchful eye.

Throughout his life, David was embraced by more than just his biological family. He was cherished by two devoted and loving families: Patty, Bob, Zack, and Dana Lichvar, formerly of Post Mills, VT, and Kerry Banks and Mark Nowlan of Brownsville, VT. These families provided David not only with care, but with a deep sense of belonging. Affectionately known as "The King," David earned his royal title because they often joked that they had become his loyal servants – happily attending to his every wish. While they enriched his life in countless ways, they often shared that he, in turn, deeply enriched theirs.

David is survived by his brothers, Steve (Laurie) DiFrancesco of Penn Yan, NY, and Guy (Beth) DiFrancesco of Orange, NH; his sister, Donna (Steve Priebe) DiFrancesco of Mesa, AZ; and his sister-in-law, Becky DiFrancesco of Thetford, VT. He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews Matt (Kim) DiFrancesco and their son Bruno; Tim (Jennie) DiFrancesco and their daughters Averie and Olivia; and Scott (Rachel) DiFrancesco – all of whom cherished having David as their uncle. His presence brought a special kind of joy to family gatherings, and the bond he shared with them was both genuine and lasting.

David was a proud participant in the Special Olympics and took part in many enriching activities through Lincoln Street, where he was surrounded by a caring and supportive community. He was fortunate to be surrounded by a wide circle of extended family, friends, and caregivers – all of whom were touched by his spirit. His life, though lived quietly, had a powerful impact. He taught his family and those around him about patience, unconditional love, and the beauty of connection beyond words.

David's family would like to thank the many people who helped him live a full and meaningful life. Individuals like David don't thrive without angels along the way. His mother, Marie, devoted her life not only to his care but also to tirelessly advocating for the programs and services that made his life better. Patty Lichvar first offered respite care to the family and later welcomed David into what became a beautiful and loving first home away from home. In his later years, Kerry Banks helped guide David through complex health challenges, following subtle clues with patience, insight, and compassion. His brother Guy was a constant presence – always there when David needed him most. And his Lincoln Street family, including Bart, Cat, Sam, Chris, and many others, surrounded David with respect, warmth, and genuine love.

His family also wishes to acknowledge the many kind souls in the community – from store clerks to library staff – who greeted him warmly during his visits. Every friendly hello made a difference. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

We are especially thankful to the medical community for the care and support David received throughout his life. In particular, we want to recognize Dr. David Park, and the many other health care workers who treated him with compassion and dignity, especially during his final days. Their kindness meant the world to our family.

A Celebration of David's life will take place on Thursday, July 17 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Lincoln Street, 374 River Street, Springfield VT 05156. Drop in any time for a free ice cream, one of his favorite treats! Condolences may be found in an online guestbook found at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
