Obituary

White River Junction, VT - David Metz Beidler, 66, died at home in White River Jct, surrounded by his family on Friday, August 28, 2020.

Dave was born on April 9, 1954 in Sellersville, PA, a son of Willard and Mamie (Metz) Beidler. He attended high school in PA and went on to become a Master Plumber. Dave worked at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH for more than 35 years and planned on retiring this coming fall. He was married to Doreen Hange in 1975, recently celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary. Dave loved spending time with his children, especially his grandson, Little Wiley.

Dave loved to help people; he had a heart to serve. Since his passing, many people have reflected on Dave as a humble servant, gentle and kind man, always quietly doing what was right. He helped care for his church and the people in it. Dave loved serving children. He found great joy in supporting many children through Compassion International and Growing Roots, an organization his daughters started thirteen years ago to serve children in Haiti. He spent many years holding and nuturing premature babies in the nursery at DHMC. He was often called "The Baby Whisperer."

Dave also traveled to Haiti and Puerto Rico to help with construction and plumbing, and had a great desire to return there one day. He loved the Lord, spending time in his Bible and in prayer. He was thankful for the smallest things. While other people would buy souvenirs on a vacation, Dave would collect feathers, rocks, and small pieces of driftwood, enjoying their simple, yet intricate beauty. He was good with his hands and was so good at fixing things. He loved a good cup of coffee, sitting on his front porch, watching the rain, and time with his family. He had a heart for nature and being outdoors, and enjoyed hunting. He longed for one more trip to the west for elk hunting, unfortunately that never came to pass.

He is predeceased by his parents Willard and Mamie Beidler and three brothers, Murray Beidler, Willard Beidler Jr., and Rodney Beidler.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife Doreen Beidler and three children; a son Carter Beidler and wife Pam and their son Wiley of Henniker, NH; two daughters, Caitlin Beidler of Myrtle Beach, SC, Leah Beidler and husband Curtis Blyden of Cambridge, MA; a brother Donald Beidler of Leola, PA; and two sisters Darlene Alderfer of McAlisterville, PA and Thelma Hunsberger of Mount Pleasant Mills, PA.

Dave was a simple man with a simple vision and a simple heart. In keeping with his wishes, a small family service will be held under the wild apple tree on his favorite hill on his property. A public celebration of Dave's life may happen at a later date, once Covid concerns diminish.

Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction assisted with arrangements. Condolences to Dave's family may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
