Obituary

Arlington, MA – Daniel Cadvan Williams passed away peacefully with his mom by his side reading aloud messages of appreciation, memories and love from his many friends, on June 3, 2025, in Sudbury, MA. Dan, the only son of Duane C and Geraldine (Greene) Williams was born on April 19, 1962, in Lebanon, NH.

He was raised in a home surrounded by music and books, and he carried these passions throughout his life. He learned to read at the Wilder School with Mrs. Gendron and Mrs. St. Jacques and from that time on, he was never without a book in his pocket or his kindle by his side.  He was a writer, too and published many articles in the Burlington Free Press and was editor of The Cynic, UVM's newspaper.

As a teenager, Dan found his own musical niche under the tutelage of Red (Ed) Bemis, at the Dartmouth Bookstore.  His interest in jazz and rock was peaked. He too became a teacher of music to others. Dan's interests were varied. He loved history, art, museums, travel, concerts, book sales, baseball, swimming and exploring the history of Boston. The winning of the Sox Series was an all-nighter! His annual trips to JazzFest in New Orleans always included historic sites, swamp tours and interesting stops, like The Elephant Museum along the way. He was an incredible navigator and trip planner, like his dad.

One of many of Dan's friends described him this way: "Danny was a 'natural aristocrat', a gentleman from the get-go, reliable, honest and ineffably free within his own soul and without.  People like that are rare in this life."

Dan was a forever learner.  He started his learning adventures at the Wilder School, continued at Hartford High School, University of Vermont, and Boston College. He studied Mass
Communications, Computer Technology and was a paralegal.

His work history included the retail music business in Burlington and Boston.  He was well known for his expertise and knowledge of music, especially at Disc Diggers in Somerville, where he was known as KOP (King of Pop).  He used his computer skills at work at John Hancock Insurance Co.

He is survived by his mom; his favorite Aunt Monica (Diekel) Greene; his cousins, Steven Williams of CA, Mark (Jordan), Henry and Nathan (Kristen) Lockwood of MI and Marie, Melissa and Melinda Hunt.
He was predeceased by his dad; his Aunts Daisy Chapman and Marjorie Lockwood; and his Uncle Mike Greene; as well as his grandparents, Dora and William Williams and Sewell Greene.

Dan's life will be honored with a grand celebration of music, including a second line, to be announced at a later date.

Dan was an amazing library advocate and user. He knew every library's expertise in his surrounding area. He loved book sales and one of his favorites was at the Somerville Public Library. A wonderful way to honor Dan and to keep his love of reading going is to make a donation in his name to Friends of the Somerville Public Library: Somerville Public Library, 70 Highland Avenue, Somerville, Ma, 02143.
