Cyrus Cross lost his battle with addiction on December 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born at home in Norwich, Vermont December 15, 1981, in the middle of several days of snow and was given the middle name Orion, the beacon of the winter skies.

After attending Norwich and Hanover Schools, Cyrus had an eclectic life that took him to Europe, Washington DC, Colorado, and California. While in California he worked at several of the best restaurants in the Bay Area. He was in his element greeting diners and artfully presenting dishes at Gather, in Berkeley. He returned to the Upper Valley in 2019.

Cy had a passion for life. He loved meeting new people, spending time with family and friends, hiking, skiing, music, sports, cooking, and eating great food. He had a large and generous heart and would help anyone in need. He was positive and uplifting, giving counsel to and motivating those around him. Cy had a great spirit for adventure but also loved to stay home with his daughters watching Glee.

He leaves his parents Cameron Cross (Ellen Kitchel) and Sonia Swierczynski (Tom Kelley), his grandmother Nora Swierczynski, his daughters Abbigayle and Arriannah  Cross, his brother Evan Cross (Miranda McKinley), nephews Baldwin, Zephyr, and Yemi, uncles and aunts on both sides, a slew of cousins, and a circle of friends across the country.

He was laid to rest in a private family burial at the top of the hill behind the house where he was born and raised. A Life Celebration will be held at the Norwich Congregational Church on May 11 from 1-3 pm.
