IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cynthia Louise
Hobbs
October 17, 1945 – March 13, 2022
Cynthia Louise Hobbs, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor surrounded by family after a brief but courageous battle with leukemia.
Cynthia was born October 17, 1945, in Stoneham, MA, to Ralph and Ruth (Heintz) Hobbs. She grew up in Stoneham and graduated from Stoneham High School in 1963. She was a dedicated member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and excelled through the ranks—an endeavor that aligned with her charitable nature. Cynthia attended college for a time, later taking a job as a secretary in the Chemistry Department of Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. She was married in 1967 and moved to her home on Weston Heights in Windsor in 1972.
Cynthia managed the Hartland branch of Mascoma Savings Bank. She cherished the many friendships she gained through the bank and enjoyed attending monthly retired bankers' luncheons.
Cynthia was a devoted and loving mother to three children. She became a second mom to all the kids on Weston Heights. She was regarded as the nicest and kindest person and could be recognized a mile away by her beautiful smile. She was a fixture at Windsor school events (sports, band, field trips, French Group) for 20 years, administrating, volunteering, chaperoning, and cheering.
Cynthia was a long-standing member of Heritage Days, and went the whole nine yards preparing, fundraising, and volunteering for Windsor Historical Society events for many years. She loved life behind the wheel. If she was going, let others argue over shotgun—she was driving. She also loved her travels to Europe, Japan, Hawaii, The Keys, California, Washington State, and more.
Cynthia loved nature and grew a giant garden on Weston Heights. Her children fondly remember eating her rhubarb and playing among her towering row of sunflowers. She loved her cats so much and insisted on feeding them the best food long before veterinarians recommended wet food. She had a passion for food and loved to bake cakes and pies for every occasion. Never one to follow a recipe, her goodies were unique every time.
Cynthia crocheted blankets and hats for just about every person born after 1970. She was great at it, and everyone in her family was warmer for it. She also crocheted mittens, sweaters, doilies, coasters, chair-feet protectors, doll clothes and accessories, grocery bags, and phone cases. During the pandemic, she even crocheted face masks.
Cynthia was an "early adopter" before the term was coined. In the 1980s, she proudly drove around with a car phone the size of a briefcase, and she was one of the first to film Windsor sporting events and school plays on her large camcorder.
Cynthia loved the sun. Her true home was at the beach with her feet in the sand and the sun on her smiling face. She continued a more-than-century-long tradition of bringing her family to Ocean Park, ME, every summer. Her kids and grandkids continue the tradition today.
Cynthia is preceded in death by her parents and sister Linda Martin. She is survived by her son Michael and wife Lisa Carsley of Silverdale, WA; her daughter Cheryl and husband Steve Doubleday of Hanover, NH; her son Joel and wife Nikki Carsley of Bainbridge Island, WA; her sister Diane Cain of Reading, MA; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members. She was loved enormously and will be dearly missed.
