West Lebanon, NH – Constance "Connie" C. Smith, 90, of West Lebanon, NH passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH after a long illness. Born to Frederick and Ellen (Rayno) Carter on March 3rd, 1933 in New London, NH, she would spend her early life between New London and Andover, NH before moving to Hartford, VT where she became an active and dedicated member of the Hartford Village community. As Student Council President of the Hartford High School graduating class of 1951, students looked up to her as a leader and source of inspiration.

She married Ernest B. Reeves in 1953. Together they raised five children on Summer Street in Hartford Village, where the children would build lifelong friendships within the neighborhood. After many years raising her family, she would work for Twin State Fruit Corporation in White River Junction, VT, and later at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in both Hanover and Lebanon, NH, until her retirement in 1995.

She married Roger W. Smith in 1980, and they would enjoy traveling often, especially to Florida, Hawaii, and the island of St. Maarten with brother Philip Carter and his wife Patsy, and sister Ruth Ellis and her husband Harold. However, their favorite place on earth was their camp on Rand Pond in Goshen, NH where they spent every summer together and welcomed all family and friends. After Roger's death in 1996, Connie graciously offered the camp to Roger's children, and followed by purchasing a camp of her own across the pond which she enjoyed with friends and family until her death. Her children will continue to love and appreciate her camp and the pond for many generations to come.

Connie volunteered her time in many different avenues, including the Bugbee Senior Center, the Greater Hartford UCC, Meals on Wheels, and the annual Shrine Game. She found lasting community through all these organizations, enjoying the people and relationships built.

Connie is survived by five children: Jill Chase and husband Gregory of Hartland, VT; Cindy Fountain and husband Norman of Bradford, VT; Julie Edwards and husband George of Chatsworth, GA; Randy Reeves and partner Susan Ogden of Thetford, VT; Cathy Carter and husband Brian of North Springfield, VT; sister Ruth Ellis of White River Junction, VT; sister-in-law Patsy Carter of Canaan, NH; step-daughter Lisa Fellows and husband Allen of Croydon, NH; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Connie was predeceased in death by her parents, Frederick and Ellen Carter; husbands, Ernest Reeves and Roger Smith; and brother, Philip Carter.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 5-7pm at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction and a funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Greater Hartford UCC on Route 14 in Hartford Village. Connie's family would like to thank the staff at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for the excellent care Connie received.
