PLAINFIELD, NH
Following a long illness, Colleen Thelma Rollins Plummer, 85, of Amherst, MA died peacefully May 3, 2017 at the Elaine Center in Hadley, MA with family by her side. Colleen was born in Bingham, ME on June 21, 1931, daughter of Earland and Jessie Rollins. After graduating from Bingham High School, she attended Fisher Junior College in Boston, MA and went on to work at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, NH where she also obtained her pilot's license, flew small planes, and only once, she claimed, landed upside down.
On September 2, 1957, she married Stephen F. Plummer, Jr. and was happily married for 57 years. Colleen and Steve moved to Natick, MA in 1960, where they raised their four children and lived before moving to Amherst, MA in 2007. Colleen worked as an administrative assistant for many years at GZA, Inc. in Needham, MA and enjoyed that work and her colleagues. Family and friends were dear to her and to Steve, and they enjoyed travels, throughout the U.S., to visit them. Colleen liked sewing, knitting, upholstering, and other home improvement activities, but ever a child of Maine, she loved being in the woods, fishing, hunting, or just out for a walk. She is remembered by her children for her resourcefulness and playful spirit and for her kindness and patience in all things.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents and husband and is survived by her brother Paul Rollins, nephew Paul Rollins, niece Jessica Turgeon, and her four children: Stephanie Osman and husband Eric of Amherst, MA and their daughter Aliya; Mitchell Plummer and wife Catherine of Idaho Falls, ID and their children Sara and Megan; Karen Rennar and husband Hank of Houston, TX; and Brian Plummer and wife Wendy of Amherst, MA and their children Luke, Lindsey, and Anna.
A funeral will be held on Monday, May 8th, at 11:00 a.m at the Plainfield Community Baptist Church in Plainfield, NH, with the Rev. Suellen Leugers officiating. A graveside burial will follow in the Plainfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimers Association (http://www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp).
